Farm Bureau Week 2010

Yuki's teacher is Cheryl Bombenger, who also received a scholarship from American Farm Bureau Federation to attend the 2010 Ag in the Classroom Conference in Maryland this summer.

County Farm Bureaus also held a variety of events throughout the week. Here are a few highlights:

Barnes County: The weekend of FB Week, Barnes County worked the Farm Bureau Booth at the Winter Show in Valley City. Mike Berntson, Barnes County Farm Bureau President, said members talked and answered questions about Farm Bureau, handed out various literature about the organization and gave away door prizes. 

McIntosh County: During FB Week, the McIntosh County Farm Bureau judged farm safety pictures from around the county and gave away cash prizes to the students with the best safety message. The cash prizes were$20 for first place, $10 for second place and $5 for third.

Sargent County: The county sponsored a grocery give away. During NDFB Week drawings were held in all the county grocery stores for $35 food gift certificates.

Sargent County Farm Bureau also awarded prizes to students in each grade participating in the Safety Placemat contest. The winners were:
 
Sargent Central: Eric Bergeman (3rd grade), Iris Mlnarik (4th grade), Madison Cherwinski (5th grade),
North Sargent: Grace Wagner (4th grade), Skylar Adermann (5th grade)
Milnor: Paul Martinson (3rd grade), Emma Bryant (4th grade) 
 
Each of the local winners received a check for $20.00 from SCFB.

LaMoure County: In order to make the Edgeley playground a safer place for kids, the LaMoure County Farm Bureau voted to donated $1,000 to the Edgeley Elementary School as part of a $26,000 renovation to the school’s playground.  The check was presented on March 18, to Nicole Wiederrich with Dakota Valley who received the check on behalf of the school.

Mountrail County: The county kicked off Farm Bureau Week with a Texas Hold ‘Em tournament and finished off the week with a chilli cookoff.

Foster County: The county ran Farm Bureau Week radio ads all week, held a grocery give away and sent the annual newsletter to all their members.

Benson County: In addition to sponsoring a grocery give away at two locations, Benson County Farm Bureau had a booth during the local ag show in Maddock.

Bowman County: A noon luncheon with North Dakota Ag Commissioner Doug Goehring was the highlight of Bowman County Farm Bureau's FB Week celebration.

Hettinger County:  To celebrate Farm Bureau Week, Hettinger County Farm Bureau sponsored a Commodity Marketing and Futures Seminar in Regent on March 23 for the public.  Dennis Wang of Heartland Investors was the speaker.

Ag in the Classroom was promoted in grades K-6 in Mott/Regent and New England Public schools on March 26. County Extension personnel Dwaine Barondeou of Mott presented "Soil, Soil and more Soil" and Charlotte Meier of Regent presented "Corn and Sunflowers". Hettinger County Farm Bureau president Marlene Kouba of Regent presented "Go for Goobers" (peanuts). Each teacher was given bags of material to share with their students.

Mercer County:  An open house and chilli with the Nodak agent were part of Mercer County Farm Bureau's FB Week activities.

Several counties, including Steele, Sargent, Grant and Ramsey, all sponsored grocery give aways.
