The Big Freeze
A group of North Dakotans headed to Atlanta, Georgia, for the 92nd American Farm Bureau Federation annual meeting last week. Some of them are still trying to make it home due to the big freeze that hit the area on Sunday morning and pretty much closed down the city.
It wasn't so much the snow that was causing the problem. It was the ice. Even as people tried to get to the airport on Tuesday morning, the situation was tough. At one point, Val Wagner of Dickey County Farm Bureau tweeted, "We are stuck on the Marta. We just backed up to get a running start to make it thru the ice on the rail." (The Marta is a rail service in the city and was about the only mode of transportation available Tuesday morning.)
Despite the weather, the North Dakota group had an opportunity to cheer on Steven Heger in the Discussion Meet and hear Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs fame tell farmers in attendance at the meeting, "I believe you are your own best spokesman."
Several pictures from the event have been posted on North Dakota Farm Bureau's Facebook page. Check out our page and become a "liker, at www.facebook.com/NorthDakotaFarmBureau.
