Autumn is coming

We are officially week-deep in the first of the ‘ber months, and even though it’s still summery outside, fall is coming!
Like any stereotypical middle-aged woman, fall is my favorite. That means it’s also time for crockpot dinners and soups. My family’s favorite soup is chicken soup, but we are split on the starch. Miss E loves dumplings, and Miss A is hardcore for noodles. Usually, what we do is make both!
We cook down cubed and cooked chicken, celery, carrots, onion, and broth until the carrots are soft and the house smells like soup. Then we heat up some more (usually store-bought) broth in a kettle and bring it to a boil. A batch of dumplings are cooked in the kettle of broth, we do the same with a kettle for egg noodles, and then we have two happy kids and we feast on chicken soup, however you like it.
We measure everything with our hearts for the soup: roughly a pound of chicken, a few stalks of celery, some freeze-dried onion, and as many carrots as will fill the vessel that we’re using for cooking soup, then broth until everything is covered, and cook away.
The dumplings are not so forgiving, so we need to follow the recipe. The recipe we use came from my grandmother. It is:
