I really wish I could start this off with a show of hands – if you’re reading this and can comment, I’ll settle for that!
Who’s currently being targeted on social media with mushroom coffee? Who’s tried it or is currently drinking it?
Multiple brands are targeting me. My brother-in-law makes a version of his own. I’m curious. But apparently not curious enough so far. I love the idea of it, but knowing how picky I am about how my morning coffee needs to taste, I’m skeptical. The targeted ads speak to me. What a conundrum.
My brother-in-law gave us these things that looked like petrified wood to make our own. I bet this was three years ago, and we still haven’t made it. I have no clue where the bag went, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was still in the garage, somewhere. So, while I’ve had access, I didn’t make it. I’m sure I had to boil it or something, and I probably thought I’d get around to it. Shockingly, I did not.
The powders really seem like a better choice, at least for me. The health benefits seem positive. But does it work? Back to the skepticism and trying to be a smart consumer.
We’ll start with the benefits if you haven’t had Doogie Howser, MD trying to convince you:
- Reduces inflammation
- Helps you sleep
- Reduces stress
- Strengthens immune system
- Supports memory
I’m sure this list goes on and on. I should also mention that mushroom coffee isn’t made from the same mushrooms you might have in your fridge right now. It’s made from medicinal mushrooms and usually mixed with coffee beans. Apparently, it does taste similar to coffee, which makes sense since it’s mixed with the beans.
So should you spend the money? For generally healthy people, it’s not likely to hurt, and maybe you’ll feel you sleep better (which could be due to mushroom coffee being lower in caffeine). You might feel better when you drink it. If so, I’d say go for it!! However, if you do have any health concerns or conditions or are taking any medications, talk to your healthcare provider before you order!!
I’m still feeling skeptical (and/or cheap), so I think I’ll stick to my boring old regular coffee and the mushrooms in my fridge! But I support those of you who want to try it!
