S'more summer

One of the best things about summer is sitting around a bonfire. From a ring in the backyard, to a solo stove, or a pile of wood that would make Burning Man envious, most summer nights we are only a match-flick away from a bonfire. And if you’re going to enjoy a bonfire, you gotta have s’mores.

The thing about s’mores, is that there is the tried and true classic version: Honeymaid graham crackers, a large marshmallow and half of a Hershey bar. Whether you’re a barely toasted or black-is-best marshmallow roaster, you slap that mallow between the crackers with some chocolate and have the tasty classic treat.

In case you grew up under a rock, or in a perpetual burn ban, maybe you haven’t been able to explore all the facets of s’more wonder. My family’s two favorite modified versions of s’mores are using fudge stripe cookies in place of the graham cracker and chocolate. It changes your s’more game from three ingredients to two, with dare I say, better flavor results. I know, that may be summertime snack treason. Try it. Maybe you’ll join me on the fudge-stripe cookie side.

We have dubbed the other modified version “the mom s’more.” It consists of a graham cracker, marshmallow, and a Reese’s peanut butter cup. Trust me — it’s a special kind of amazing.

So, whether you’re camping, backyard chillin’, or enjoying a little post-dinner ambience with a fire this summer, don’t forget to make some time to sit around the fire with some sweet ingredients and make some sweet memories. Try the mom s’more. You’ll thank me later.
