World Emoji Day and my freezer

World Emoji Day and my freezer

by Dawn Smith-Pfeifer

What could World Emoji Day and my freezer possibly have in common? To be honest, not much. While most companies use today (July 17) to unveil new emojis, my take on it will be slightly different. In other words, I'm commandeering the world-wide celebration for my own nefarious purposes.

🦹‍♀️

I am going to share, through emojis, the emotions I went through when I innocently went to the basement to get something out of the freezer before I went to bed and saw something truly disturbing.

Holy cow, what happened here?

Photo of my frosted freezer. (FYI: That's cherry juice dripping, not blood!)

My reaction:

😵‍💫

😒

😫

🤔

😴

If you are wondering exactly what these all mean, here’s the key:

😵‍💫 What the h-e-double hockey sticks is this?

😒 Did I do this? Was I the last one to open this freezer? How long has this been going on?

😫 Everything is ruined! What a mess! This will take for EVER to clean up!

🤔 What should I do right now?

😴 Close the door and go to bed. I will deal with it tomorrow.

Needless to say, I took the next afternoon off from work to clean my freezer. I know I’m probably speaking to people of a certain age when I quote a scene from SpongeBob, but….5 hours later....

After several industrial-strength trash bags, a couple of coolers, plenty of mopping and some heat-gunning, the result was truly amazing!

It almost looks like new. Almost!

👀 (Would you look at that!)

😍 (It looks like new. Almost!)

🤩 (I feel good about this!)

🤦(But now I don’t want to put anything in it again!)

And you know how you double-check that the freezer door is actually closed after incidents like this? Yeah, well, now I triple-check, then take a few steps away, and just for good measure, check again.

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
