Action Alert on Chesapeake Bay bills posted
The Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works marked up S. 1816, the Chesapeake Clean Water and Ecosystem Restoration Act of 2010. The bill represents an extraordinary expansion of Clean Water Act authority, providing new federal regulatory and enforcement mechanisms that will have a significant impact on agriculture.
We are asking you to contact Senators Conrad and Dorgan and urge them to vote NO on S. 1816.
Conversely, there is a bill in the House that is much-more farmer friendly. H.R. 5509 provides incentives that support the implementation of additional environmental best management practices that go above and beyond minimum state regulatory compliance requirements. The bill also gives assurances to farmers and ranchers that their taking such steps will meet expectations for agriculture’s contribution to this effort over a reasonable period of time. We are asking that you contact Rep. Pomeroy urging his support and sponsorship of H.R. 5509.
Our website has been updated with a message to Senators Conrad and Dorgan urging them to oppose S. 1816 and a message to Rep. Pomeroy urging support and co-sponsorship of H.R. 5509.
