This week has been National Farm Safety and Health Week. The focus for the week this year is All Terrain Vehicle safety. The theme was Work smart. Ride safe. Unfortunately, people don't always take that advice seriously.
The Childhood Agricultural Safety Network says that, each year in the United States, 40,000 children under age 16 visit emergency departments because of an ATV injury. Children account for more than one-third of ATV-related injuries and 28 percent of ATV related deaths. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under 16 years of age not operate ATVs.
To learn more about ATV safety and some of the sobering statistics, please check out an hour-long webinar hosted by agrisafe.org. The ATV webinar is at the top of the list.
