Bina is YF&R Challenge winner
Spencer Bina of Lankin won the Young Farmer and Rancher Challenge, held at the North Dakota Farm Bureau Annual Meeting, Nov. 18-19 at the Grand International in Minot.
The YF&R Challenge involved two rounds of the Discussion Meet at last winter’s YF&R Leadership Conference and a taped 5-minute video interview. From there, four finalists were chosen. The finalists competed at the NDFB Annual Meeting for a chance to go on to represent North Dakota at the national Discussion Meet, to be held in Hawaii in January.
The Discussion Meet brings contestants together to participate in a group discussion that simulates a committee meeting. The topic for the finals was, “How can we convince the public that the animal agriculture industry balances production efficiencies with the public’s expectations of animal care?”
Bina and his wife, Rachel, farm and operate Bina Seed. They have two children.
Other finalists in the competition were Courtney Hawbaker of Portal, Katie Pinke of Wishek and Dean Knell of Pick City.
As state winner, Bina will receive an all-expense paid trip to the AFBF Discussion Meet in Honolulu, Hawaii, January 8-11 and an all-expense paid trip to the NDFB YF&R Leadership Conference in Fargo, Jan. 27-29.
The winner of the AFBF Discussion Meet will receive their choice of a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado or a 2012 GMC Sierra (approximate retail value of $35,000).
