Dagman wins Discussion Meet
Enderlin farmer Travis Dagman won the 2014 Young Farmer and Rancher Discussion Meet, and will represent the state at the national meet in San Diego, Calif., this January at the American Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting.
Dagman was one of four finalists who discussed the topic: How should our nation’s policies balance concerns about food insecurity against concerns about the safety or environmental impact of modern agricultural technologies? What role should farmers have in discussing and debating these issues in our society and with our lawmakers?
“We’re incredibly proud of all the finalists. It was a difficult topic, but they handled it well and had a great discussion,” said Joey Tigges, NDFB Leadership Development Director.
To win the title, Dagman competed in two rounds of the Discussion Meet at last winter’s YF&R-sponsored Leadership Conference. From there, four finalists were chosen. The finalists competed at the NDFB Annual Meeting for a chance to go on to represent North Dakota at the national Discussion Meet.
The Discussion Meet is a competition designed to simulate a committee meeting where discussion and active participation are expected from each participant. This competition is evaluated on an exchange of ideas and information.
Dagman and his wife, Dana, raise corn, soybeans, wheat and barley. In the winter Travis works at the local tax office. The Dagmans have three children.
Other finalists in the competition were Neil Horner of Wishek, Jodi Boe of Fargo and Chris Holznagel of Belfield.
