Meckle receives NDFB's Student Volunteer Scholarship

Topic: Leadership

Bismarck, N.D. – Madalyn Meckle of Bismarck has received the NDFB Student Volunteer Scholarship. This $2,500 scholarship is available to high school seniors who have volunteered for NDFB.

Through more than 40 hours of volunteer service with NDFB educational programs and activities, including Living Ag in the Classroom and Morton County Ag Days, Meckle helped students learn about North Dakota agriculture, where their food comes from, and the many uses of products grown in the state, including oilseeds.

“One of the most rewarding parts of volunteering was seeing students become excited about agriculture and curious about where their food comes from,” said Meckle. “Even small conversations can help students better understand the important role farmers and ranchers play every day.”

Meckle said her volunteer experience helped her see the importance of agricultural education and the opportunity to help bridge the gap between consumers and farming and ranching.

“Helping students connect agriculture to their everyday lives showed me how important it is to continue sharing agriculture’s story,” said Meckle. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to help young people learn more about an industry that impacts all of us.”

A senior at Legacy High School, Meckle will graduate this spring with both her high school diploma and an Associate of Science degree from Bismarck State College. She plans to attend the University of Mary this fall to study biology with a wildlife and conservation concentration while pursuing a minor in politics.

The NDFB Student Volunteer Scholarship is one of five scholarships offered by NDFB. A complete list of scholarships can be found at NDFB Scholarships.
