NDFB Statement on Trade Assistance Package

Topic: Issues

Statement by NDFB President Daryl Lies regarding the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announcement of a trade assistance package.

Yesterday, a $12 billion agricultural assistance package was announced, in hopes to provide temporary assistance to farmers and ranchers experiencing the financial effects of the current trade negotiations. As a conservative organization advocating for freedom, opportunity and self-reliance, we are focused on the need to restore markets for the individuals feeding the world, our farmers. We appreciate that the administration is concerned about the initial impact of trade negotiations on U.S. producers, but we must understand this is a very short-term solution. We fully understand and appreciate the need to correct unfair practices regarding trade and we must not sell America short in these agreements.
