S.D.'s Rep. Noem shares personal death tax story
The $1 million estate tax exemption and 55 percent top tax rate set to go into effect on Jan. 1 will be devastating to South Dakota, a state that runs on small businesses and family farms, like the one Rep. Kristi Noem (R-S.D.) grew up on.
“When my father died unexpectedly in an accident on our farm, we were hit with the death tax and made the decision to take out a loan so that we didn’t have to sell land,” Noem wrote in her weekly column
. “No family should have to make the decision we were forced to make. That is why I continue to advocate for the permanent repeal of the death tax.”
