NDFB urges no vote on Measure 2

Topic: Issues

Bismarck, N.D. -- NDFB urges a no vote on Measure 2 this November, citing its long-standing policy against the legalization of marijuana for recreational use in North Dakota.

“Our concerns are based on the unintended consequences for farmers, ranchers, employers and rural communities,” said NDFB President Daryl Lies. “Workplace safety and accountability are a huge concern for NDFB. If passed, the measure will compound North Dakota’s workforce shortage, particularly if an employer requires applicants to pass a drug test. We believe the unintended consequences for business owners would be crippling.”

“Measure two creates liability issues for business owners,” said Lies. “Federal regulations of marijuana will still apply. This will create concern for the legal responsibility of employers such as farmers and ranchers, regarding regulations.”

Current NDFB policy against marijuana for recreational use was adopted by farmers and ranchers across the state in 2018. You can view the NDFB policy book at www.ndfb.org/policy/issues/.
